Quoting Wikipedia:
The European People's Party (EPP, website) is a European political party founded in 1976 by Christian democratic parties, though later it increased its membership to include conservative parties and parties of other centre-right political perspectives. The EPP was founded on 8 July 1976 in Luxembourg on the particular initiative of Jean Seitlinger, the then Belgian Prime Minister Leo Tindemans, who also became the first President of the party, and the later Belgian Prime Minister and EPP President Wilfried Martens. The EPP has been the largest party in the European Parliament since 1999.The EPP includes major parties such as the German Christian Democratic Union (CDU), the French Union for a Popular Movement (UMP), the Spanish People's Party (PP), and the Polish Civic Platform (PO), but has member parties in almost all EU states.
